Foodie Friday ~ Cincinnati Chili

Foodie Friday is presented by Gollum at
"Designs by Gollum". Visit her site for more
fabulous recipes:)
Here's the packet of ingredients. I found this at the Kroger food store. My Mom comes from Cincinnati and has raved about this chili for a long time. Mom and Dad both enjoy this dish. I can't believe this was my first time ever trying it.

Combine the content of the package above with one 6-ounce can of tomato paste and 6 cups of water.

Add 1 to 1/2 pounds of lean ground beef. Do not brown.

shhhhhh.....Secret ingredient........add 1 tablespoon Hershey's Coco Powder:)

Beat mixture with a fork and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer (slow boil) uncovered, stirring occasionally, until desired thickness, approximately 1 - 1 1/2 hours.

Boil spaghetti.

Grated cheddar cheese and chopped Vidalia onion.

Put spaghetti in bowl.

Add Cincinnati chili mixture.

Add onions.

Top with cheese.
After dinner read "Julie & Julia" before the movie comes out:)

I have had chili with cocoa in it before, and you would never know it was in there. It gives it a nice flavor and color.

I can't believe you posted this! Hubby and I are from the Cincinnati area, but live in Virginia now. We LOVE Cincinnati chili and it's always one of our stops when we're "back home." I'll have to look for the Skyline mix in Kroger. Another Cincinnati chili restaurant is Dixie Chili and my parents usually bring us a case of cans of that when they visit.

I have heard of adding chilies to chocolate and chocolate to sauces but have never tried either. Sounds good though.

I love this chili and have eaten it while traveling through Cinti. If I could find the chili mix I would love to try and make it. I wonder if we can buy it on the computer. I seriously do not think it would ever be sold in my small NC town. I will be looking for it though.

Hugs...Jeanne

We are big chili lovers in my household! This is very interesting... I have never heard of chili served over pasta or adding cocoa!

We don't have a Kroger's supermarket in my area but I'll be checking to see if that recipe is available where I shop!

I will definately be trying the cocoa in my own chili recipe too!

Thanks for sharing!
